MONTEVIDEO - DAY 0 - 16/1/25

I landed in Montevideo yesterday! My partner, Astrid (also known as Lana) picked me up from the airport yesterday. We took the taxi to her place so I could drop off my more expensive stuff, then walked 15 minutes to my AirBNB. Other than my room, the rest of the AirBNB is outside (still covered to protect from the rain.)

The biggest concern with my AirBNB is that there is no way to lock the doors from the inside. I made a makeshift doorstop with some screwdrivers I had, but that feels like a very janky solution to something as Important as protecting me and my valuables. I will work on securing the AirBNB more when I am not as sick.

Astrid and I went back to her place and had dinner from a local Venezuelan place. I got a Chivito, Uruguay’s sandwich that they’re known for. It was ok! Steak, eggs, bacon, vegetables, and cheese is a lot to eat at once. I didn’t finish it all in one sitting, which is good because I had some dinner for later too.

We and I took a short nap and cuddled and kissed a lot before I went back to my place for the night. On my way home, I was taking mental notes of all the stores I was passing. On the walk between my place and Astrid’s, there is a pharmacy, a bakery, a currency exchange store, a hardware store, and several supermarkets ranging from tiny kiosks to “large” stores (We would not consider them large in the US, the one I went to was about a quarter of the size of the Aldi’s I used to go to.)

After I returned to my place, I emptied my backpack and went to the pharmacy and the store for some essentials. I got back, showered, ate the rest of my Chivito, secured my doors with some screwdrivers and fell asleep.

I am writing this the next morning while incredibly sick… it was only a matter of time :(

Wishing everyone good health,
