For my friends, enemies, allies, and strangers in the US:
The world stands with you in your fight against fascism. From what I understand, media coverage of anti-fascist protests around the world is being suppressed in the US. You are not alone.
I joined a march against fascism yesterday. The president of Argentina is pretty explicitly fascist, and yesterday, Buenos Aires, Montevideo, London, Rome, Paris, Madrid, Rio de Janeiro, and many other cities held protests against fascism (Pretty explicitly about fascism in Argentina, but there were a lot of undertones about fascism in the US as well.) The march in Montevideo was organized by trans and queer groups. I joined a group of hundreds as we marched on the Argentinian Embassy in Montevideo. The whole block was packed with protest signs, pride flags, and people who wanted their voices heard. I made a sign that said “End Trans Genocide” on one side (a phrase that has been floating around the MLPS scene on buttons and patches) and “ Argentina, America, No more fascism” On the other side. I had a lot of people take pictures of me, likely because of my sign, the dyed hair, and the punk demeanor I had. Also probably because of my all black pup hood (except for some accidental paint splotches!) I feel more comfortable at protests when my face is covered, both because we live in a global surveillance state, and also because it gives me a sense of anonymity. (Another benefit is masking to protect people as well.) I loved being part of the movement, even though I didn’t understand everything that was being said. Any march with pride flags is a march I want to be a part of.
If my journal entries get more sparse and more vague, it's likely for the security of the people around me. Unfortunately, my desires to blog and share with the world clash with my desire to be an activist and stand up for the causes I believe in.
